When working toward your diabetes and health goals, it's okay to start small. In fact, the more you make larger changes over time, the more likely you are to incorporate healthy choices into your regular habits.

4. Add exercise to the daily routine 

Incorporate at least 30 minutes of physical activity into your An easy start is a daily walk. Take small steps every day to improve your fitness.

5. Improve hygiene and habits

Examine and improve your current hygiene and habits. Quit smoking in the New Year, and don't start if you don't smoke. 

Brushing with an electric toothbrush and flossing twice daily can reduce your periodontal disease risk. Replace your toothbrush head at least every three months or after a cold, virus or flu. Chew sugar-free gum with xylitol between meals to reduce your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Inspect your feet daily for cuts, sores, red spots, and blisters.

6. Address Stress Immediately

Understand and identify how stress, depression, and anxiety make you feel, and take a few deep breaths when you start feeling anxious. Learn to say no to overcommitment and ask loved ones for help. Make time for yourself when you're feeling overwhelmed. Get 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

7. Share New Year's Resolutions and Goals

This increases your chances of keeping them. It also helps you get the support of friends, family and business associates.
